These gorgeous rainbow salt dough leaves are a fun nature-inspired activity for fall. You can certainly choose to paint them fall colors, but my daughter had the idea to turn them into pretty colors of the rainbow and so that’s what we did!
What are your favorite fall leaf activities to make with the kids?
Watercolor Rainbow Salt Dough Leaves – Materials:
– 2 Cups of flour
– 1 Cup of salt
– 1 Cup of warm water (give or take)
– Leaves
– Watercolors
– Paintbrushes
Instructions:
Step 1. Make the salt dough. Pour the flour, salt and water into a bowl and knead thoroughly until a dough forms. If it’s too dry add a bit more water.
Step 2. Roll out the dough, about 3/8″ thick
Step 3. Press your leaves firmly into the salt dough. It helps to have leaves with “veins” so they will show up when you paint over them. We found these pretty maple leaves as shown above but didn’t use them since they didn’t show up well on the dough. We ended up using the fern like leaves (the one pressed in the dough above) for this project.
Step 4. Arrange your watercolors in colors of the rainbow, grouping like colors together. We painted each leaf variatons of one color each. Allow to dry.
When you’re done you have these beautiful rainbow leaves when grouped together.
