Start good dental health habits early with your kids.

It’s important to start practicing good dental health at a young age. Dentists advise bringing children to the dentist early on, even before they have a lot of teeth to brush.

That way they can get comfortable with the dentists and instill great dental habits moving forward. Knowing the anatomy of the mouth can help your children understand what’s in their mouth and how to take care of it.

We started early by bringing in fun anatomy and brushing activities like a dinosaur tooth brushing toy to practice brushing and flossing.

Brushing teeth and talking about mouth health doesn’t seem very fun, but this teeth craft for preschoolers will have your kids begging to brush!

We made this simple recycled anatomy activity with cardboard as the mouth and rocks as teeth! If you’ve been following us for a while you’ll know rock crafts are one of our favorite activities for kids. And don’t you think rocks kind of look like teeth already?!

It’s so simple to get started!

How to make a teeth anatomy learning craft

Learning the anatomy of the mouth is just the beginning. Learning about the human body shouldn’t just be reserved for biology class. Find fun ways to teach your children about anatomy with activities like making a lung model or with a human body anatomy apron. Not only will these anatomy activities help your children feel more comfortable with their own bodies, it will give them a good foundation for science study in school.

Instructions

  1. Print out the free printable to help your child learn about the anatomy of the mouth. Some of the words may be difficult for younger children to read, so use this as an opportunity to learn and read with your child.
  2. Cut out a large cardboard base in the shape of a mouth. Paint it dark pink by mixing white and red paint together. Allow to dry.
  3. Cut out a tongue using pink felt. Use hot glue to glue it on the (dried) bottom part of the mouth.
  4. Find 32 small rocks (white or painted white) to use as teeth in the mouth. Make sure to use the anatomy of the mouth printable to place the teeth correctly. Glue these down using a hot glue gun.
  5. Cut out the names of each of the teeth from the printable and help your child label them. Don’t glue these down as they can be used again and again to practice identifying the anatomy of the mouth.
  6. It’s time to brush and floss! Get a small bristle hairbrush and piece of white yarn and have your child practice brushing and flossing teeth. Don’t forget the tongue!
