When the end of the school year approaches, we’re always looking for clever ways to thank our teachers. A few years ago, we started the tradition of gifting a book, and it has proven to be a lovely way to give a meaningful and lasting token of our appreciation. But nothing says “heartfelt” like hand made, so we like to add a little something a note or card from the kids – inspired by the book and drawn with love.
One of our favorite books to gift is this inspirational one by artist Lisa Congdon, “Whatever You Are, Be A Good One.” One hundred hand-drawn illustrations and quotes in Congdon’s whimsical and playful style leads to inspiring art for kids, and is a great reminder that teachers are instrumental in leading kids to “be a good one.”
This book and art would make a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Day or back-to-school gift as well!
TEACHER BOOK GIFT AND ART IDEA – MATERIALS:
- Cardstock
- Pens, markers, crayons
- Whatever You Are, Be A Good One Book
INSTRUCTIONS:
We decided to be inspired by the playful hot hair balloon cover which is also an iconic image for graduation. Or you can ask kids to flip through the many playful illustrations and quotes in the book and pick their favorite one.
Simply fold your cardstock in half and ask your child to draw their own version of their favorite illustration with quote from the book. Add a personal thank you note inside the card!
The hot hair balloon art reminds us of our Geometry Tree art if you want to take a peek on this method of drawing.
Pair the book and personalized card with some chocolates, small treats or pretty bath products in a gift bag and you have a wonderful and special Teacher gift!
