Making handprint art is one of my favorite ways to create with my kids and make a beautiful keepsake! Creating snowman handprint art ornaments is an adorable holiday activity that’s perfect for bonding with your children. It’s a wonderful way to make a handmade ornament that will add a festive touch to your Christmas tree this year. Here’s how you can create your own!
Snowman Handprint Ornament – Materials:
- Plain ornaments (preferably with a matte finish to hold the paint better)
- White craft paint (we used acrylic)
- Paint markers in various colors (we love Posca paint pens)
- Clear sealant (optional, for sealing the paint) like Mod Podge
How to make Snowman Ornaments
- Prep the Ornaments: Choose a plain ornament; the color can be any color but we recommend matte. You can also use clear plastic ornaments which would be safer around kids to handle.
- Painting the Hand: Brush the child’s hand with a generous layer of white craft paint. Ensure all areas are covered for a clear handprint.
- Stamping the Ornament: Carefully wrap the painted hand around the ornament. Press each finger gently but firmly to ensure the entire handprint transfers. Remove slowly to reveal your handprint.
- Decorating the Snowmen: Once dry, each finger’s imprint will be the body of a snowman. Use paint markers to add details like faces, buttons, scarves, and hats. This is where kids can be really creative, personalizing each snowman!
- Finishing Touches: If desired, once the paint markers have dried, you can apply a clear varnish to seal the paint, making it more durable with a shiny finish.
- Adding Hanging Mechanisms: Attach ribbon or twine around the hook.
- Displaying Your Ornaments: Hang these adorable handprint snowmen on your Christmas tree or around your home.
Tips:
- Use non-toxic, washable paints, especially when working with young children.
- Personalize the snowmen or the other side of the ornament by adding names, dates, or unique text related to your child.
Conclusion
These handprint snowman ornaments are not only a fun Christmas craft, but also a sentimental keepsake that captures your child’s tiny hands in this season! As the years pass, you’ll cherish these little handprints and the memories of making them.
