Do your kids like watching YouTube channels? I don’t give my kids a lot of screen time but when I do, they love watching YouTube kids channels about their favorite interests.

I’d love to tell you about a new one for kids geared towards train play. Disclaimer: this is my son’s newly launched channel, so I may be biased, but you can check it out for yourself and see!
My five year old son, Kian, has been obsessed with trains since he was 18 months old. He’s grown quite a large collection, particularly Thomas and Friends trains. We even made Thomas cardboard costumes for all his friends one year for his birthday. And he loves to show them off to anyone who will play with him.
As part of supporting projects with your kids and encouraging their passions (as I did with my daughter’s Rainbow Rock Project), I’ve helped my son set up his first YouTube channel, Kian’s World of Trains, where he will be sharing all his favorite trains, toys and activities.
We’ve only started but have goal of uploading 1-2 new videos a week. So far, Kian is loving the process. He is so happy to share his love of trains with other children!
It’s exciting as a parent to nurture his passion. As well, in shooting videos together, I’ve realized what great skills he is learning – such as public speaking, communicating, speaking slowly, and confidence.
Just a few tips for those of you who want to start your own YouTube channel for kids; I’m definitely not an expert, but would recommend only focusing on a topic your child truly loves and not a passing hobby. For us, trains have been my son’s die-hard passion since he was a toddler and has continued for several years, unlike some passing fads (ahem fire trucks).

I would also recommend a clean look, descriptive name, and logo with a specific niche you can explore in-depth.
Last, I monitor all activity on his channel and moderate comments – to make sure there is no negativity. I want my son to focus on the fun process of sharing what he loves and nothing else, as he is too young to manage the back-end process.
