Instructions to make this DIY Unicorn Valentine Card Box
Step 1: Print out the unicorn box template on cardstock and cut out the parts to use as templates you can trace over any color paper you’d like. Alternatively, you can print directly on colored cardstock.
Step 2: Have two boxes you can recycle, a small one for the head and larger one for the body (empty food or snack boxes work great). Wrap them in colored paper or use wrapping paper.
Step 3: Glue or tape on the unicorn features (eyes, horn, cheek, ears, hearts). Let the kids get crafty and decorate their box using markers, stickers or craft elements like beads directly on the box. You can add your child’s photo as well, to personalize.
Step 4: Make the legs by cutting two toilet paper rolls in half. You can have kids paint them or just wrap colorful paper around them. Glue them on to the bottom of your unicorn box.
Step 5: Last step is to cut a slit on top of your box to keep all those cute Valentine cards!
As you can see, you can print out a picture of your child and have it stuck on the side of the box. This is a fun way to showcase their smile and their personality.
But if they don’t want to have their picture on the side of the box, they can easily print off something that they love that they want to have on there as well.
Think kittens, puppies, or just a giant mound of cotton candy…whatever they want, if they can download and print off the pictures, they can then cut it out and glue to the side to showcase.
Put the slit on the very top of the “unicorn’s back” so that the cards and goodies can easily be put into it and they won’t fall out.
My tip to you? Make the slit a nice size so it’s easy for the kids to put the cards inside. Some cards have some thicker candy or even toys attached so you’ll want to take that into consideration as well.
As long as you cut the legs of the unicorn the same size, you should be able to stand it up without issues. However, if for some reason you can’t stand your unicorn up, you can just lay it on the side with the fun printed picture facing up.
And if it can’t stand up, don’t make the slit on the back of the unicorn…instead make it underneath the picture so it’s easier as well.
What are some fun ways you store your kids’ Valentines?
This is a tradition that we have in our house so we really do love to find fun ways to make our own! It’s such a simple process that results in so much fun and lots of creative time together.
