DIY My Color Is Rainbow Softie

Do you remember our first children’s book debut, My Color Is Rainbow? If you haven’t picked it up yet, this colorful picture book features Little White Arch as the main character and is a modern picture book on love and acceptance.

Follow Little White Arch on his journey as he wonders what his color could be. Along the way he meets many colorful characters who help him realize the answer. A playful story about kindness, love and acceptance that celebrates how we are not defined by one, but many wonderful characteristics.
Today you get to make Little White Arch come alive as a little rainbow arch softie your kids can play with!
This sewing with kids tutorial comes from our dear friend, kid sewing expert Trixi from Coloured Buttons who spearheads Sew a Softie. A wonderful initiative to get kids sewing.
If your kids are interested in sewing we highly recommend checking out all the delightful sewing patterns and softie ideas on Trixi’s site!
Now on to creating your own Little White Arch…he comes with a free printable pattern you can download below.

Stuffing

Fabric marker

Printable Pattern

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1. Cut out the printable template and trace the arch onto the white fabric.

Step 2. Your traced line is your sewing line.

Step 3. Place the rainbow fabric with wrong side facing up. On top of this place the white fabric with arch outline facing up. Pin together and sew around the arch leaving an opening for stuffing.

Step 4. Cut out the arch about ¼” from your sewing line as shown above.

Step 5. Stuff the arch. Pin and sew the opening closed.

Step 6. Draw on the face and fray the edge of the fabric.

Step 7. Some markers bleed into the fabric so it’s a good idea to test your marker on a scrap of fabric.

How cute is Little White Arch in all his colors! Wouldn’t it be fun to make a whole softie rainbow family from all the colorful creatures he meets in My Color  Is Rainbow?

Making a book softie is a wonderful way to get your child excited about reading by making the characters come alive!

We hope this inspires you to make softies out of your favorite children’s books.
