Apple Pumpkin Stamps – Materials:
- 1 apple
- Orange acrylic paint
- Black marker (for drawing faces)
- Green marker (for drawing stems, vines, and leaves)
- White cardstock (to stamp on) (we used white but black would be great too!)
- Paper towels or cloth (for drying the apples)
- A paintbrush
How to make apple pumpkin stamps
Step 1: Cut Your Apple
Start by cutting an apple in half horizontally (the “equator” of the apple). Make sure to cut all the way through the middle, exposing the core and seeds. The flat side of the apple will become the “stamp” for your pumpkins.
Step 2: Dry the Cut Surface
Pat the cut side of the apple with a paper towel or cloth to make sure it’s dry. This will help the paint stick better and give you a cleaner stamp.
Step 3: Paint the Apple
Pour some orange acrylic paint onto a plate or shallow container. Using a paintbrush or directly dipping the apple half into the paint, cover the flat side with a generous layer of orange. Be sure to cover the entire surface for a smooth, even stamp.
Step 4: Stamp the Pumpkin Shape
Once the paint is applied, press the painted apple half firmly onto a piece of paper or cardstock, with the painted side facing down. Hold it there for a few seconds to make sure the paint transfers completely. Lift the apple, and voilà—a pumpkin shape appears on your paper!
Step 5: Let the Paint Dry
Allow the painted pumpkin shape to dry completely before proceeding to the next step. You can speed up the process by letting them sit in a warm area or using a hairdryer on a low setting.
Step 6: Draw the Faces
Once the orange paint is dry, grab a black marker and get creative! Draw faces on your pumpkins to turn them into cute jack-o’-lanterns. Whether you prefer traditional faces with wide eyes and a toothy grin or quirky, abstract expressions, the choice is yours.
Step 7: Add Stems, Leaves, and Vines
Using a green marker, draw a little stem at the top of each pumpkin. Add leaves or vines curling around the pumpkin to complete the look. We did some of ours with vines, and some without!
