It turns out Friday, June 3rd is National Donut Day! We love donuts around here, just not the sugary crash they come with once our kids indulge in them. If you’re looking to celebrate this sweet day with your kids without the extra sugar, here’s a healthier “donut” version made with apples!
Apple Fruit Donuts – Ingredients:
– Apples
– Cream Cheese
– Food Coloring (optional)
– Sprinkles
*you’ll also need an apple corer or something to make the hole – or you can use a pastry tip like we did.
Step 1. Slice your apples about 3/4″ thick. Use a knife, corer, or pastry tip to make a hole in the center.
Step 2. Color you cream cheese if you’d like. We just added a drop of neon food coloring to get these bright colors. Add sprinkles.
That’s pretty much it! Enjoy this healthier “donut” for kids that makes a yummy and adorable snack.
If you want to sweeten the donuts a bit to cut the tang from the cream cheese, add a drizzle of honey on top.
What are your favorite healthy kid snacks?
Happy National Donut Day! Check out these adorable donut projects for kids.
