HOW TO MAKE A FELT RAINBOW PILLOW

We’ve been enjoying so many fun rainbow activities lately here (as you can probably tell) in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Here’s a fun and easy felt rainbow pillow that will add a cheerful touch to any kid’s room – perfect addition with spring coming! It’s easy enough for kids to help make, too. Read more below on how to make your own simple felt rainbow pillow.

Felt Rainbow Pillow – Materials:

– 2 pieces of white felt 9″ x 12″

colored felt in red, orange, yellow, green and blue

– poly filling to stuff the pillow (like this or commonly found in any craft or fabric stores)

– sewing machine, needled and thread, scissors

– strong craft glue

Instructions:

Step 1. Find a rainbow template online you can resize to a full page to print out. There are several of them online if you search for “rainbow template.” We chose a rainbow with simple lines that would be easy to cut out and enlarged the image to print out to fill the page since our felt pillow dimensions are 9″ x 12.”

Step 2. Once you print your rainbow template out, cut out the lines.

Step 3. Use each rainbow line you cut out as a template for each corresponding color. This is a great time to involve your kids if they are able to trace and cut using scissors.

Step 4. Carefully glue each of your rainbow lines onto one of the pieces of white felt. Allow to dry completely.

Step 5. Pin the reverse side of your white felt piece with the rainbow onto the other white felt piece. Sew along leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Make sure to leave a hole that is not sewn to fill with stuffing.

Step 6. Carefully reverse your pillow once sewn. In the hole you left, stuff the pillow with your poly stuffing until full.

Step 7. Close up the hole with your needled and thread. We used a blanket stitch but of course you can do use any stitch you’d like.

This is a cute sewing project you can make with kids that took about 45 minutes from start to finish. My daughter loves her new decorative pillow and it adds a colorful touch to her room!
