KID-MADE T-SHIRT YARN BEADED NECKLACES

My daughter and I love painting wooden beads and turning them into pretty necklaces. I’ve always wanted to try making my own t-shirt yarn to use as string and found out it was quite simple actually!

Read more below to see how fun it is to make these bright and colorful beaded necklaces with the kids.

Kid-Made T-Shirt Yarn Beaded Necklaces – Materials:

– Wooden beads (we love these simple round and geometric ones)

– Old t-shirt (a stretchy one like jersey knit works best)

Paint and paint brushes

– Large blunt needle for threading

Colorful beads and stars (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1. To make the t-shirt yarn, we followed this video tutorial which walks you through the easy steps of folding a tee in half and cutting strips in certain patterns.

Step 2. Once you have your t-shirt yarn, roll it up in a ball and save it for later.

Step 3. Time to paint your beads. We used bright neon tempera and acrylic paints.

Step 4. Once the beads are dried, it’s time to thread! Use your needle and run it through the end of your t-shirt yarn so you can easily thread beads through.

I love the beautiful pops of colors on these! This is a fun art project for kids that results in gorgeous accessories to keep or give away as handmade gifts. You can also add a glaze or varnish to the beads to make them last and keep the paint coating intact.

Have you ever tried making t-shirt yarn? We can’t wait to make more and see what else we can make with it.
