My kids love eating hand pies, so much easier than cutting slices and fun for little hands to hold. We decided to make these adorable mini heart hand pies to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The best part about these pies other than their cute size? They require only 2 ingredients!
Mini Jam Heart Hand Pies – Ingredients:
(makes 20 mini pies)
– One package of refrigerated pie dough crust (14.1 oz, two rounds)
– Strawberry jam (or your favorite flavor)
– Jumbo heart sprinkles (optional)
You’ll also need a baking pan, parchment paper and a heart cookie cutter, ours was 3″ wide.
Instructions:
Step 1. Unroll the pie crust and cut out hearts. Lay them out on a parchment lined baking pan and place a heaping teaspoon of jam on top of one.
Step 2. Place another cut out heart on top the one with jam, crimp the edges with a fork to seal. Cut a tiny slit with a knife in the middle for the pie to vent.
Step 3. If the pie dough gets too soft, refrigerated for about 20 minutes before baking. Bake pies in a 375 degree preheated oven for about 20 minutes. You can place under the broiler for a couple minutes at the end to get them nice and brown but that’s optional.
After they’re cooled, you can add one jumbo heart sprinkle in the center of each pie – use a little frosting if you have on hand or dab of jam to secure.
Such a cute and easy treat that brings a smile. Perfect for your Valentine party and fun for kids to make too!
